When you think of Albert Einstein, you probably think of ‘Relativity’ and ‘E=mc2’

But did you also know that he worked on why the sky is blue, how light energy can be changed into electrical energy and the shape of the Universe?

  • einstein head shotPeople think Einstein failed school, but in reality he just wasn’t great at non-mathematical subjects and actually did very well in his final year of school.
  • E=mc2 says that mass can be converted into energy. An average adult has enough energy bound up in them to explode with the force of thirty hydrogen bombs. So watch out next time you make your parents mad!
  • Most people think Einstein won his Nobel Prize in 1921 for his work on Relativity, but it was for the ‘photoelectric effect’, which is about turning light energy into electrical energy, helping the development of television, yet another reason to love Einstein!
  • Einstein had ideas that we were only able to prove later on when our technology developed; like that gravity should be able to ‘bend light’. We had to wait until our telescopes were powerful enough to actually prove this but he turned out to be right!
