- Are you passionate about science and technology?
- Are you a good communicator?
- Do you enjoy helping others learn?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above questions, why not volunteer your time and help us achieve our mission by becoming a Sciguide?
What do Volunteers do?
Scitech volunteers are known as Sciguides. Their main job is to work directly with the public to explain and interpret science. They work directly with visitors to help them get the most out of their visit to Scitech. This includes presenting science based activities, talking to visitors, explaining the principles behind various exhibits, and helping staff in the day to day running of the City West centre.
How often do Volunteers work?
Volunteers can choose what times they want to work, but need to be able to complete a minimum of 6 hours per month.
Why Volunteer?
Volunteers come from all walks of life and span the ages of 16 to 85, bringing with them vitality, interests, knowledge and experience. Volunteering your services can do great things for your life. You make plenty of new friends and learn great new skills. Being a volunteer looks great on a resume. But most importantly, volunteering is good for our society. By volunteering at Scitech you will be helping to educate our young people about the fascinating world of science and technology. You will be using your free time to make a difference.
“There are other rewards than money. As you get older and move away from full-time employment you tend to lose your sense of worth, but at Scitech I feel valued and respected and at the same time I am meeting new people and sharing my love of science. And of course, there is the sense of achievement and satisfaction that comes from helping others." Bill Macham, Scitech's Volunteer of the Year 2008
Anything else?
All Scitech volunteers need to be able to provide a valid Working with Children Check. Previous experience is not essential as full training is provided.
