Scitech recently sent two of its most dynamic presenters overseas to take part in the "Kids' Science Fest," which is held annually at the Singapore Science Centre.
Presenters Elisa McGowan and Kimiko Holder, enthralled over 1500 Singaporeans with the captivating "Science for Life Show." The show fitted with this year's theme of 'Ask Why,' by getting kids and adults to think like scientists and question the world around them.
Elisa and Kimiko's lively show tackled everything from pirates fighting global warming, to phones popping popcorn and a little bit of kitchen chemistry thrown in for good measure. Audience members were encouraged to participate with a special audience response system allowing the presenters to interactively engage with their viewers by asking them to vote on various scenarios.
"Being given the opportunity to do what we love and present our shows overseas was a fantastic experience," said Elisa. "Our shows are designed to appeal to a universal audience with interactive content that motivates young people to question the world around them. A popular section of the show involves showing kids a 'You Tube' video which suggested that popcorn could be popped using a mobile phone and then testing if the video is real or fabricated. The result proves that young people should not always believe everything they see or hear."
"Scitech has a strong relationship with the Singapore Science Centre with presenters visiting the Kids' Science Fest for over six years now," Kimiko adds. "This program is a truely amazing experience and we feel very privileged to have been a part of this year's show."
Organisers from the centre said the Scitech shows were a highlight of this year's festival. Scitech would like to acknowledge A*STAR and Science Centre Singapore for organising this wonderful event.
