Scitech recently held a series of free evenings consisting of lively banter that sparked curiosity, ignited discussion and left people questioning the world as we know it.
Over four nights in June and July, leading Perth scientists took the people of Perth on a journey through contentious topics currently rousing debate in our society.
The first event was a roaring success with a packed house shunting the cold in favour of a cosy pub and a pint of beer, where they heard our profs Steve Smith from UWA and Peter Newman from Curtin discuss the 'Gore Delusion.'
The second, spawned discussion about if technology and censorship has revolutionised the terror game to an eager audience who were keen to hear about the changing face of security.
The next edition took an indepth look into what it means to be human when science mixes us with animals and technology? Transplants, genetically modified humans, human organs in other animals, robotics, and cell growth for art were all on the agenda and provided interesting topics for debate.
And finally, the last installment of Profs and Pints questioned the astronomically big to the astronomically small and challenged why we always seek answers - even if it costs the big bucks, or seems to have nothing to do with our everyday lives. Participants questioned the point of searching for answers and whether those answers actually matter?
