As Chief Executive Officer for the past ten years, Alan Brien has seen Scitech grow into Australia’s leading science centre. Under his guidance, Scitech has undergone a major refurbishment including the installation of the largest digital planetarium in the Southern Hemisphere: Horizon and the expansion of Scitech's Outreach programs in partnership with Rio Tinto WA Future Fund.
The redevelopment culminated in the launch of the “Reinvented” Scitech in April 2006. The result of these works has been the best visitation records in the company’s history, with a 32% growth in total visitation since 2002-2003.
Alan is a graduate from the University of Western Australia where he completed a Master of Education. He has held a diverse range of senior managerial positions including Director of Sport and Recreation at the University of WA, Promotions and Programming Manager at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, Manager of Whiteman Park and Director of Visitor Services at Kings Park.
Alan has been actively involved with the promotion of science and technology centres through his roles as President of the Australian Science and Technology Exhibitors Network (ASTEN), and the Chairing of the National Science Partnership of Science Centres, Museums and Science Education Centres. He is also a member of the Western Australian Premier’s Science and Innovation Council Education Working Group, a judge for the Australian Eureka Prizes and a member of the PLC School Council here in Perth. He has also recently been appointed to the Advisory Board of Currie Hall at UWA.
