A free touring program designed to inspire Year 8-10 students to pursue careers in science, mathematics, engineering and technology.

Beyond the Beaker is a two-part program delivered at your school. It is available throughout metropolitan Perth all year, as well as in certain regional areas.

Careers Presentation
Running time: 60 minutes
Group size: 60-150 students
Students will be treated to a multimedia presentation exploring how science is relevant to the everyday lives of school students, how studying science and maths teaches problem-solving abilities that are valuable to employers and explores the wide spectrum of exciting career possibilities in science. Presented by a team of young, dynamic science graduates, the show has been created to appeal to all student levels and abilities.

Sustainable Futures Workshop
Running time: 90 minutes
Group size: 30 students
This is an optional follow-up interactive workshop designed specifically for motivated students. Students are prompted to think about science and technology career possibilities using the sustainability sector as a dynamic example.

University
Western Australia’s five universities offer a broad range of science, engineering, technology and maths based qualifications. Whether you are interested in the environment, chemistry, calculus, biotechnology, brain surgery or civil engineering or any other field, there is a course available for you. Simply click on one of the links below to search for qualifications you may be interested in. Start by having a look at ‘Undergraduate Courses’ and remember to check out the entrance requirements.

TAFE - Training WA
TAFE centres offer a huge range of qualifications from Certificate II in Automotive Electrical Technology to a Diploma in Aeroskills. If you choose to do an Apprenticeship or Traineeship it is likely you will do your coursework at a TAFE centre. Increasingly, TAFE courses are a stepping stone to university, so if you haven’t chosen university aimed subjects in high school but have decided you want to go, DON’T PANIC. Speak with your schools career advisor and check out the links below.

Apprenticeships and Traineeships
There are around 500 different apprenticeships/traineeships available in Western Australia. This is a great way to get paid while you attain your qualification and will lead to a fantastic career utilising science, maths and technology. Apprenticeships and traineeships can often be started when you are still at high school, so speak with the VET coordinator or career advisor to find out what your options are.
