Scitech's travelling mathematics program delivers engaging and educational maths activities to both metropolitan and regional middle school students (Years 4-9) across Western Australia.
Using puzzles, full body mazes, maths problems and conundrums from famous mathematicians, students use a range of problem solving skills and learn how maths is involved in our daily lives.
A broad range of maths activities assist teachers to achieve many outcomes in the Curriculum Framework.
Our maths incursions provide a positive, exciting and challenging environment for students to discover different areas of the mathematics curriculum.
A Maths visit can include a combination of three different programs:
Maths Show (25 minutes)
An exciting mix of interaction, explanation and demonstrations. The show focuses on maths in everyday life and the concept of working mathematically without the use of numbers. We offer different shows for primary and secondary audiences.
Large Puzzles and Hands-on Exhibits (35 minutes)
A range of big, colourful, full body maths activities such as mazes, floor puzzles and maths games covering various learning areas and providing an exciting way for students to learn and practise maths. Our hands-on exhibits display a variety of maths concepts and the history behind them such as Pascal's Triangle, Tower of Hanoi and Chaos Theory. Students participate in activities related to each exhibit which allows them to explore each concept.
