Scitech’s Future Health Professionals program provides Year 11 & 12 students with the exclusive opportunity to get hands-on experience in allied health, with a five-day intensive series of talks and practical workshops.
Thirty students are accepted into the annual program, to network with and learn from a variety of health care professionals, explore allied health career pathways, gain experience at one of Australia’s leading teaching tertiary hospitals, and participate in simulated medical procedures.
Sessions may include: surgical techniques such as scrubbing and suturing, clinical skills such as IV insertion and plastering, nursing and midwifery, emergency and paramedicine, pathology, medical imaging, anatomy, facility tours, career pathways and networking.
2021 Future Health Professionals | Applications now closed
Applications for the 2021 program have now closed, and successful applicants have been contacted. The program will take place from Monday 18 January — Friday 22 January, at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (located in Nedlands).
This program is open to WA students entering Year 11 or 12 in 2021. Students must provide their own accommodation and travel to and from the program.
The program fee is $800, which includes all sessions, program materials, scrubs, morning tea and lunch each day. There were a limited number of fee-waiver placements available for 2021.
We had so many different opportunities where we could witness the real health professionals changing the lives of real patients for the better.
I was enthralled by the whole program… FHP showed me the evidence-based philosophies, skill of practice and compassionate qualities that are required for a career in healthcare which appealed to my personal values.
