Discover STEM through inquiry-based learning, with exciting opportunities to:
- Build on skills acquired each week and consolidate previous learning
- Collect and analyse data
- Design solutions to real-world STEM challenges
- Work as part of a team with like-minded peers
Participants will receive a certificate at the completion of the series
Suits 8 to 16 year olds and held over 6 weeks.
Date | Activity |
Monday 24/2 | Welcome/Ozobots Discover how an Ozobot uses sensors and programming to engage with its environment. Then learn to use Ozobotβs colour code language to create a sequence of steps instructing their Ozobot through a puzzling challenge |
Monday 9/3 | Experimental design Learn the fundamentals of how to conduct your own scientific experiment. Explore how changing and controlling variables can help you to make your own unique discoveries. |
Monday 16/3 | littleBits designers Students will use littleBits electronic modules and the Innovation Cycle of Need-Think-Make-Try-Refine to design a prototype electronic machine. Real world engineering and tinkering. |
Monday 23/3 | CSI Forensic Science An ancient Egyptian urn has been stolen from a museum and there are several people suspected of the heist. Using science inquiry skills, students investigate the evidence collected from a crime scene, making observations, analyse results and develop explanations based on the evidence. |
Monday 30/3 | littleBits advanced Build on your previous littleBits experience and work collaboratively to design a kinetic contraption. |
Monday 6/4 | States of Matter/Conclusion Play with solids, liquids and gases in hands-on experiments to produce incredible results. Students compare particle behaviour and material properties, detecting physical changes in matter and explore unusual substances such as slime. |
