Empowering educators to lead digital technologies
Mandurah primary school teachers are championing digital technologies in the classroom.
You may not know that Scitech is a registered charity and we are excited to be launching for the first time our philanthropy program.
Scitech is embarking on an exciting new chapter by launching our philanthropy program, to ensure we can continue our work in empowering Western Australians to engage with science.
Scitech is a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity and for more than 35 years has been providing meaningful and memorable science experiences to everyone from visitors to the Discovery Centre, to regional communities with our outreach programs, teachers participating in our professional learning, to global audiences through our feature exhibitions that travel internationally.
Why philanthropy?
Admission to the Discovery Centre and other events and programs only covers a portion of the vast services we provide. We rely heavily on generous contributions of corporations, foundations, and the government to fund our work so that we can reach as many people as possible. Expanding into fundraising for the first time is an important and essential step for Scitech to be able to continue to deliver science learning, including to those who have financial and accessibility barriers.
“Eighty-nine percent of people agree Scitech encourages and inspires the next generation to engage more with science and technology,” Scitech CEO John Chappell said.
“With this in mind, it is important we continue to provide opportunities for science engagement through our Discovery Centre, outreach programs and events. Now is the right time to begin a fundraising journey for people who are passionate about science, innovation, and curiosity, the opportunity to invest in the next generation.”
Why engaging in science is so important
By engaging our community in science, we give them the tools to be active participants in understanding and solving the issues and challenges we face now and in the future. And with 1 in 3 STEM workers attributing Scitech to having a positive influence on their career, we know how impactful our services are in inspiring the next generation.
“Scitech continues to be an iconic organisation that brings incredible social value to the WA community,” Scitech Chair Chris Palandri said.
“We are evolving, and part of this growth is embarking on fundraising activities to grow and diversify our revenue, so we remain relevant and have an even more meaningful impact on the WA community.”
Philanthropy at Scitech
The philanthropy program will feature targeted appeals throughout the year with our first one in June focussing on the School Access Program, which provides select Perth primary schools the opportunity to take part in a Scitech excursions who cannot afford it. This is a hugely important program for Scitech as excursions allow students to have an immersive and tangible experience science not possible in the classroom.
We have also launched the Luminosity Circle, our donor circle program which will bring together a collective of like-minded philanthropists who want to ensure that all Western Australians have access to world-class science experiences.
Scitech is on a mission to engage as many Western Australians in science as we can. For our impact to reach everyone, it will take investment and generosity from multiple sources, including the WA community who we know are as passionate about science as we are.
