Charges and Payment
Visits to Scitech are GST free. Scitech can accept payment on the day of your visit, or we can send out an invoice after your visit. Please fill out the ‘Scitech Signatory Form for Invoicing’ provided with your booking confirmation and hand it to a Scitech staff member on arrival.
A minimum charge equivalent to 15 students is applicable for all bookings.
Pre-paid bookings will not be refunded. Scitech will not be able to refund you if there are non-attendees.
Duty of Care
While Scitech presenters will run the Program with the students, the duty of care remains the responsibility of school staff.
All bookings require a minimum of two (2) supervising adults.
Younger siblings are discouraged from attending with supervising adults. If they are required to attend with an adult, general public pricing applies.
Schools Only: Scitech encourages schools to bring as many supervisors as they feel necessary on an excursion to Scitech. All supervising adults are free of charge. To help students maximise their Scitech experience, we recommend the following supervision ratio:
1:3 – Kindy to Pre-Primary
1:4 – Year 1 to 4
1:6 – Year 3-4
1:8 – Year 5-6
1:10 – Year 7
1:15 – High School
Working with Children Checks
All staff at Scitech who work directly with children have a current ‘Working with Children’ check as a condition of employment. Scitech staff are well trained and experienced science communicators. Most of them hold or are studying degrees in science, education or both.
Staff are required to present their working with children checks at your request.
Identification
Several different schools can participate in an excursion at Scitech on the same day. Please ensure that you select a suitable method for identifying your students. Wearing school uniforms, name tags, badges, coloured tops or hats, wrist bands, or lanyards helps supervising parents, and Scitech staff identify excursion participants quickly.
Leaders should also wear an identifying badge so that lost children can be quickly reunited with their group and always stay with them.
Capacity and Program Limitations
There is a maximum number of students per session to comply with Workplace Health and Safety regulations. All changes to your booking must be managed through the bookings team via bookings@scitech.org.au or (08) 9215 0740.
Due to limited space it is recommended that your students leave their school bags at school.
Special Needs and Allergies
It is the responsibility of the School/Event Coordinator to advise Scitech if any students have any special needs or allergies.
Scitech can not guarantee a nut-free environment.
Scitech Lab
Enclosed footwear must be worn, and no children under 5 are permitted in the Scitech Lab. A minimum charge equivalent to 15 students is applicable for all Scitech Lab bookings. Food and drink are not permitted in the Scitech Lab.
Scitech Planetarium
Please allow fifteen minutes before your planetarium show as usher time as outlined in your confirmation letter. If you are late this may result in your students missing out on their booked show. If you need to leave during the show, re-entry into the dome is not possible.
Children under 4 are not permitted in the planetarium.
Please ensure all phones, smartwatches, and devices that may light up are turned off during the show.
No food or drink is permitted in the planetarium.
Exhibition Spaces
A school visit to Scitech’s exhibition areas often involves a structured exploration by a Scitech presenter. Programs run in exhibition areas are also shared with general public timeframes, so please consider all Scitech visitors.
International and Playgroup Bookings
International and playgroup bookings may be permitted to book a “School Excursion”, provided they book within the school term. All bookings outside the school term will be treated as a group booking.
Group Bookings – Out of School Care/ International groups/ Playgroups
Bookings
Please confirm your preferred length of visit, i.e., start and finish times, your preferred dates (up to 3), the number of students and year groups visiting, any special needs and your preferred program/ s.
On the day of your excursion
Please leave your students at the base of the stairs to Scitech and advise our staff of your arrival. A Scitech staff member will be assigned to greet your group, go over your schedule for the day and sort out payment and final numbers.
If your school has been delayed and will arrive late, please contact Scitech on 9215 0740. The Scitech Duty Manager will do their best to reschedule your programs, but this may not always be possible due to other groups.
Accessibility
Scitech has a lift from the undercover car park, and all areas of Scitech are wheelchair accessible, including an accessible toilet and first aid room.
School Bus Parking
Bus parking is available on the Sutherland Street side of the City West complex. Students should be dropped off at the roundabout at the front of Scitech to disembark safely before entering Scitech. A ticket will need to be purchased from the City of Perth ticket machines and displayed on the bus’s dashboard.
Public Transport by Train
Scitech is located near the City West train station (Fremantle line) or a 20-minute walk from the Leederville train station (Joondalup line). Contact Transperth staff to organise low-cost options for your transport.
Food at Scitech
Morning tea or lunch breaks must be arranged before your visit with the bookings staff and allocated as the word ‘break’ on your confirmation letter. Where possible, please allow only one break per day at Scitech as areas are strictly limited and a shared resource for all schools visiting. We will store your lunch tubs for you until your allocated break time.
There are vending machines for snacks and drinks in the ‘City Views’ area of Scitech. There is also a café located on the ground floor of City West, and Water Town is only a 5-minute walk away from City West. If you wish to have recess or lunch off-site, Harold Boas Gardens is a 2-minute walk across the railway line on Wellington Street.
Storage at Scitech
Due to limited space and a lack of secure storage areas, it is recommended that you leave your school bags at school.
During the excursion
A school visit to Scitech’s exhibition areas often involves a structured exploration by a Scitech presenter. Programs run in exhibition areas are also shared with general public families, so please consider all Scitech visitors.
