Hot vs Cold

Extinguish your burning curiosity in this show about heat, how it moves and how to protect yourself from it.

Feature Exhibition: Explore your World

Undertake a quest across land, sea, and space to explore the role of mapping and navigation in everyday life. Visitors will find the seven ‘quest’ stations to solve puzzles and collect different parts of their own map, which can then be viewed and brought to life through augmented reality.

In Explore Your World visitors will use different navigational tools and techniques to find their way through dangerous reefs and shipwrecks, escape a virtual building in an emergency, and pilot a simulated underwater exploration vehicle. They can operate a real sonar scanner to map themselves and their friends, or take on the challenge of a giant game of Battleships.

🔬 Micro Worlds Activation – Rio Tinto Innovation Central

Come to Rio Tinto Innovation Central to explore the very, very small, with our Micro Worlds activation. Learn about plant cells and make your own by using stamps to add all the organelles and complete the picture. Then come to a Pop-Up Science busk in the Rio Tinto Innovation Central Grandstand arena, for bite-sized science demonstrations, including seeing a real-life Scanning Electron Microscope in action! You may even get to provide a sample of your own hair to scan!

The Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) is an incredible piece of equipment that uses a beam of electrons to image at a sub-micron resolution, which is much higher than it is possible with an optical microscope. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to interact with such a machine at Scitech, all thanks to all friend at Curtin University. Don’t miss out!

🌱 Step inside a Plant Cell – Rio Tinto Innovation Central

Shrink down to the cellular level to see what is inside plants! Collect different stamps at each station to form the whole picture of the organelles found inside a plant cell. Once your piece of the puzzle is ready, it’s time to add it to our BIG LEAF to see the final result! What do you think it’ll look like?

🔍 Small, Smaller and Smallest! – Rio Tinto Innovation Central

A magnifying glass, a Dynolite and a Microscope. Are the plants getting bigger or are we getting smaller?
