World Bee Day celebrates our hard-working little pollinators. And at Scitech, we’ll be finding out why bees are so important to the planet.
Try a taste of honey-flavoured liquid nitrogen ice cream, meet ‘Wendy the Beekeeper’, and learn all about bees, pollen, nectar, and what honeycomb tastes like. Plus, check out the Scitech bees in their brand-new state of the art hive!
Wendy the Beekeeper 11am and 1.30pm
‘Wendy the Beekeeper’ will be presenting two fun and interactive sessions entitled ‘What do Bees do in the hive?’ So, if you would like to learn all about bees, pollen and nectar, then make a bee-line to the Grandstand area!
Honey Ice Cream Busks Twice daily, following ‘Wendy the Beekeper’ sessions
What better way to celebrate World Bee Day than with honey flavoured ice cream! Get a taster in how to make honey ice cream using liquid nitrogen, while learning about the cool science of liquid nitrogen in these pop-up demonstrations.
Visit the Scitech Bees
Scitech’s Visible Hive exhibit recently reopened with a brand-new state of the art hive. This new hive now features a separate internal box to house the hive, a place for them to dump waste out of the hive and an internal heating system to ensure it remains a toasty 35 degrees Celsius, the perfect temperature for a beehive. Make sure to pay them a visit, see if you can spot the queen and try out the bee waggle dance!
The main purpose of World Bee Day events is to spread awareness of the significance of bees and other pollinators for our survival.
