Take 2 STEM subjects to prepare for the future workforce

The State Government has launched Take 2 STEM to encourage secondary students to study two STEM subjects and prepare themselves for exciting and emerging careers of the future.

You have reached the main content region of the page.

Take 2 STEM is part of the WA Government’s State STEM Strategy and Scitech is immensely proud of the role it plays to support this important initiative.

The campaign brings together local STEM heroes to tell their stories and aims to help students, educators and parents understand the opportunities and benefits of studying STEM. It points out the wide range of vocations and innovative career pathways STEM skills can lead to.

Additional resources have been highlighted, including Scitech’s online “At Home” activities for students and parents to extend their STEM learning journey together. Our educational programs and initiatives, as well as the STEM Learning Project are also highlighted to support Educators across WA.

Science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) skills and knowledge have become increasingly relevant as the nature of work evolves to meet the fast pace of technological advancements, the need for innovation and critical thinking across various industries.

Over the next two decades automation and digitisation will affect 40% of current Australian jobs. However, it has also been shown that 65% of children entering primary school today are expected to occupy professions that do not yet exist and that 75% of jobs in the fastest growing industries will require STEM skills and knowledge.

The Take 2 STEM campaign is a timely and important initiative to help secondary students make better informed decisions about their future. From conservation to construction, mechanics to mining, nursing to neuroscience, agriculture to aviation, STEM skills are key to a sustainable and prosperous future for local and global communities.
