Opening doors to discovery for WA families

Scitech has worked with the WA Government and The Smith Family to provide hundreds of families with free passes to experience the Discovery Centre together.

At Scitech, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to find their connection to science. That’s why we work closely with government, not-for-profit partners and our generous community to remove barriers and create meaningful experiences for families who might otherwise miss out.

In the lead-up to Christmas, Scitech worked with The Smith Family, providing 400 families with free passes to experience the Discovery Centre together.

A Family Partnership Coordinator from The Smith Family, Shelly, said the gift was particularly meaningful during the holiday period.

“It is such a wonderful feeling to offer our families this amazing opportunity at this time of year,” Shelly said.

In December, Scitech also worked with the Department of Communities WA to provide 500 free Discovery Centre passes for foster care households. The in-kind contribution is equal to $51,000 and means up to 1,000 adults and 2,000 children can visit the Discovery Centre to play, learn, connect, and understand the world a little better through science.

Child Protection Minister Jessica Stojkovski said the initiative would support some very special and deserving children and young people.

“Through the generosity of Scitech, thousands of children and young people in care will be able to attend one of Perth’s premiere family attractions for a day filled with fun, activities, and learning,” Minister Stojkovski said.

As a registered charity, Scitech’s visitors and supporters played a vital role in making these opportunities possible. Through Scitech’s Christmas Appeal, we received 142 gifts, the equivalent of 246 children’s tickets to Scitech. We are so grateful to our community for helping to ignite curiosity, inspire imaginations, and create lasting memories for children and families in need.
