A place to belong: Nina’s Scitech journey
Scitech has been part of Nina's home school education since she was just three years old.
Scitech is travelling 3,000 kilometres throughout the Wheatbelt to bring fun science experiences to 17 schools.
Scitech is on the road, travelling 3,000 kilometres throughout the Western Australian Wheatbelt to bring interactive science experiences to 17 schools.
From Beverley to Dumbleyung, Scitech is delivering science shows and workshops to students in kindergarten through to Year 6, encouraging understanding through doing.
As part of the tour, Scitech is visiting some of Western Australia’s smallest schools, including Yealering Primary School, which has 10 students, and Babakin Primary School, with five students.
Scitech Statewide Manager Dr Shaun New said Scitech was committed to making sure all Western Australians can connect with science, no matter where they live.
“Due to the the large distances between communities and small size of schools, Wheatbelt communities often miss out on special experiences like a visit from Scitech,” Dr New said.
“The reception we get from students and teachers at Wheatbelt schools is incredible; the schools are so welcoming, and the students are always enthusiastic and super engaged.”
Scitech’s school incursions encourage curiosity and discovery, and help students connect science with their everyday life in a fun and supportive environment.
“Early positive engagement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics is so important in encouraging young people to continue developing these skills during their time at school, throughout their lives, and into their career choices,” Dr New said.
“Our aim is to be the spark that ignites curiosity and encourages students to continue their science journeys.”
Scitech visits every regional and remote school in Western Australia every three years.
In the 2024-25 financial year, Scitech delivered 15 regional tours, travelling 36,000 kilometres across Western Australia.
