Mitsui Intensive Robotics Program
In 2019, Scitech helped 717 students and 42 teachers at Baynton West Primary School develop their technological skills and knowledge through the custom-built Mitsui Intensive Robotics Program.
Since 2014, the Program has aimed to bring educational robotics to the Pilbara, preparing students for the jobs of tomorrow. From the outset, no schools in the region had educational robots or teacher capacity to use them. Working intensively with one school per year, over the last six years, Scitech has upskilled half the candidate schools and over 2,300 students, and inspired other schools to introduce robotics into their curriculum.
Now there is an annual Pilbara RoboCup Junior Competition that has enjoyed 268% growth in student numbers in the last three years. Now all schools in the Pilbara have large numbers of educational robots and are actively using them.
Now students can experience real world application to solve real world challenges. They can develop 21st century skills and be prepared for a meaningful career in STEM innovation.
