This National Science Week, Scitech Discovery Centre is bringing schools a free series of five, 20-minute virtual excursions designed for Years 3 to 6.
Each episode starts with a big question and follows the journey from idea to answer. Inspired by the 2026 National Science Week theme, Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All, the series shows students that science starts with curiosity and belongs to everyone.
Across five sessions, two of Scitech’s science communicators race to investigate a question using fast experiments, fun challenges, observations and a final myth debunking quiz. Along the way, students explore how scientists make predictions, test ideas and use evidence to understand the world around them.
Streaming on YouTube, these sessions are easy to use in the classroom and perfect for whole class participation. Students can join in with quiz questions and classroom discussions as the action unfolds.
These sessions will start live each day at the following times:
- 09:00am Australian Western Standard Time (WA)
- 10:30am Australian Central Standard Time (NT, SA)
- 11:00am Australian Eastern Standard Time (ACT, NSW, QLD, TAS, VIC)
Teachers who register will also receive free extension resources and access to recordings, helping continue the learning beyond National Science Week. Curiosity Unleashed is designed to be accessible for schools right across Australia and the world, including regional and remote communities.
Register your interest below and join as many sessions as you like with as many students as you like. More details coming soon.

Microsoft Teams (Town Hall event) – instructions on accessing our virtual excursions, including access without a Teams account, will be emailed closer to the dates.
Yes, we are recording all four virtual excursions. Access to the recording files will be emailed to registered teachers following each event. We still recommend joining our live sessions (if possible) for added interaction, and to allow us to record student estimates.
To participate in the Virtual Excursion, you will need:
- A device that has access to the internet,
- A screen on which the live stream can be projected from your device, for your students to watch.
Other than that, just bring yourselves and get ready to have some fun!
As many as you like! The Virtual Excursions are designed to be live-streamed into your classroom on a projector screen, to be viewed by everyone in the room at the same time. That might be just your class, a whole year group or even your whole school!
As the date of the event approaches, you will receive a link and instructions on how to access the live stream.
Registered teachers will also be provided with free extension resources and digital copies of the virtual excursions to keep and use in their classrooms. These resources are designed to extend students’ space missions beyond National Science Week!
