Make these school holidays astronomical!
Workshops from Telethon Kids Institute are back at Scitech these April school holidays, delivering a massive program of hands-on science and health workshops just for kids!
School may be out, but not for the curious kids! The popular workshops are back at the Scitech Lab. Including a return of some of your favourite topics, such as ‘Poo and You’ as well as three brand new workshops ‘Food Futures’, ‘Magical Microbiome’ and ‘Microscopic World’. There’s sure to be a topic your kids will love.
Each workshop runs for 1-hour and costs $22 per child ($15 for Scitech members). Some workshops are for younger kids and some for older just check the workshop description. All workshop tickets include entry to Scitech’s interactive exhibition space, which you can explore before or after the workshop. Our workshops are delivered by real-life Telethon Kids researchers, who will bring the science and health topics to life through fun games, exciting experiments, and hands-on activities.

Let’s go on an adventure to explore the inner workings of our ears! Use everyday materials to create a large-scale ear model and investigate how we use our ears to hear. Investigate how sound waves travel through the ear to the cochlea and vibrate to transfer sound to your brain. By the end of this workshop, you will know everything there is to know about ears and get to take home your very own model.

Learn about the composition of blood and the different roles each part plays by creating blood which you can take home. There’s no need to be squeamish, as we’ll be creating our blood sample using edible ingredients. Then take your learning to the next level and think like a scientist through a hands-on investigation where you’ll get to explore different blood types and their compatibility. Don’t worry – no animals or humans have been harmed in the making of this workshop!

What is the future of food and nutrition? In this workshop you will get to explore and use our 3D- food printers to create futuristic food. Design your own food adding minerals, vitamins, and different food groups together to make a complete meal. You could design a burger made from seaweed or a steak made from broccoli! Then be amazed as you see the robot print out 3D food. Please note no food will be consumed during this workshop.

Ever wanted to explore the microscopic world? In this workshop you will discover all things microscopic. You will sort the good bacteria from the bad bacteria in our bacteria bingo game, prepare your own slides to look at yoghurt under a microscope and get to use our high-powered travel microscope to investigate different bacteria.

Learn about the different types of bacteria and microorganisms that live in our microbiome! To help us understand our gut, junior scientists will make their own unique microbiome using a range of textured items to be squeezed and squished in a Ziplock bag with a squirt of bubble bath.

Have you ever wondered how the food we eat travels through our bodies and give us the energy we need? Learn about the different organs that make up our digestive system in this fun and messy workshop where you’ll get to track the journey from food to poo. It’s a rather sticky and gross process, but lots of practical fun! This is one of our most popular workshops and tickets often sell out quickly, so secure your spots early.
