SOS! Do you have what it takes to be a hero?
Every day search and rescue operations take place around the world. Scitech’s returning exhibition, Rescue, allows visitors to experience and react to high-pressure, rescue-based scenarios in the air, sea, and on land.
Life-saving operations involve a high level of training and are undertaken by specialist rescue squads who offer lifelines to many people in time of need.
But what happens during a rescue scenario? What do we do if we find ourselves in need of rescuing?
Rescue throws visitors into a number of high energy and rescue-based emergency scenarios to put their skills to the test. Step into the shoes of a helicopter rescue team as they climb aboard a life-sized helicopter to conduct a rescue using infrared cameras to look for heat signals. Drop low and feel your way through a replica burning building as you search for survivors. Answer a distress call and pick out the most important details and piece together what is needed to perform a rescue operation.
At Rescue, visitors will overcome their own fears to save others, fight simulated fires, and learn to pick the right equipment to perform a sea rescue.
Undertaking different rescue scenarios in a range of environments, visitors will also learn about radio communication, search techniques, and rescue equipment such as the Jaws of Life.
Rescue is suitable for all ages and is free with admission to Scitech. The feature exhibition opens on 13 May 2019.
