School holiday workshops

Every school holidays, we hold engaging workshops in our CSIRO Lab to keep holiday boredom at bay.

Scitech holiday activities cater for children aged 4 to 16 years old, with a variety of workshops on offer to ensure there's something for everyone.

Earthquake engineers

Take on the role of a civil engineer as you design and construct a multi-storied tower. Learn how to make your tower strong and stable enough to withstand our shaky earthquake simulator.

Junior forensics

Step into the shoes of a forensic scientist, as you work in small groups to solve the crime of who stole the library book. Use a range of forensic science techniques to investigate the evidence including digital microscopy, chromatography and paw print analysis.

Fibre laboratory

Fizzy chemistry

Experiment with acids and bases to make some fizzing chemical reactions. Use colourful indicators to test your mixtures, then make your own bubbling lava lamp to take home.

Science night

What happens at Scitech once the sun goes down? Science Night is back these holidays with an exclusive after-hours event just for kids. Explore Scitech’s awesome Explore-a-saurus exhibition, see a show in the Lotterywest Science Theatre, experiment in the CSIRO Lab and complete a science scavenger hunt.

Pizza and drinks will be provided for booked attendees.

Members: $25 | Non-members: $27

Out and about

Lotterywest BioDiscovery Centre

Unleash your inner scientist with a hands-on experience of some of the awe-inspiring technologies used by the Perkins researchers. Visitors don a lab coat, gloves and safety glasses and learn how scientists do the experiments that lead to new discoveries, new medicines and a brighter future. This laboratory session will explore DNA extraction, cloning your own cells for experiments and examining them alongside living cancer cells.

This package also includes morning or afternoon tea at Coffee Anatomy.

Please meet a Scitech staff member in the foyer 10 minutes prior to the session to get your name checked off the list.

Please note: Participants must wear flat closed in shoes and the session will only be held if 10 or more people book a spot. Maximum 16 participants per session.
