What you need to know before you book an incursion with Scitech.
- On the day of your booking
Our staff will arrive approximately one hour before the program is due to begin with all the required equipment. Please arrange for someone to meet them and show them to the demonstration area(s). It is beneficial for us to get our vehicle as close as possible to the set up location, so please ensure there is adequate parking available.
- Scitech staff
All Scitech staff have a Working with Children Check
Although Scitech staff will run the program, duty of care remains the responsibility of your staff. It is a requirement that a minimum of one adult accompany each group or 30 students for the duration of the visit (2 adults for the Early Childhood program).
- Program Cost
Most of our programs are available at a per student rate, though this is dependent on the program selected and the number of students who will be participating on the day. If you are unable to meet our minimum number requirement your school will be charged a flat rate for the program. The cost of our programs can be found here on each program webpage.
- Incursion timetables
We recognise that every school is different and as such requires personalised timetables. Timetables for our visits are scheduled around your school times to ensure everyone has a wonderful experience and no one misses their recess or lunch breaks. In order to create your timetable we require your school bell times (including recess, lunch and any other relevant times), specific location within your school of where the program will take place and a list of all the classes involved, including the number of students in each and their year level.
- Science Shows
Science shows require a cleared, undercover or indoor area with access to power and water, large enough to accommodate your student groups (e.g. School hall, undercover area or library).
Workshops require a sheltered area with access to power/water, large enough to accommodate one group of students (e.g. multipurpose room, undercover area). Tables and chairs are not required and should be cleared aside prior to the visit.
The Spacedome requires a cleared sheltered area with walls on at least three sides (8m diameter and 4m ceiling height), as well as access to power. A venue with hanging lights and fans is not suitable as these can cause to damage the Spacedome.
- Early Childhood Program
All you need to provide is an area of space that is a minimum 20m2 and is cleared of all furniture before our staff arrive. It is beneficial for us to get our vehicle as close as possible to the set up location. During set up of the workshop we require your students to be in a different location (eg. outside or in a neighbouring room).
- Beyond the Beaker
The Beyond the Beaker Careers Presentation requires an indoor area with access to power and water, large enough to accommodate your student groups. Please ensure seating is arranged for students prior to the visit. Five metres of space from the first row of students is required to allow for our projection equipment and show space. We will provide all of our own equipment including a screen, projector, laptop, PA system and table. As a projector is used, it would be preferable to have control of the amount of light in the room. Please ensure this room is not booked 60 minutes before and after the presentation to allow for set up and pack down. Please note that all of our programs require an undercover or indoor, ground-floor area.
- Robotics and Coding Workshop
The Robotics and Coding Workshop requires students to be seated at desks, so a classroom is usually suitable. Access to power is also required. Please ensure that your venue(s) are not booked 60 minutes before and after the program to allow for set up and pack down.
- Lab on Legs
The Lab on Legs program requires an indoor space, such as a classroom, wet area or library, with access to tables and chairs, power, water and a smartboard or projector. One dedicated space is required in which all classes will take place for the day. Please ensure this room is not booked 60 minutes before and after the presentation to allow for set up and pack down.
- Science After School
The Science After School workshop requires an indoor space, such as a classroom, wet area or library, with access to tables and chairs, power, water and a smartboard or projector. Please ensure this room is not booked 60 minutes before and after the presentation to allow for set up and pack down.
Please note that all of our programs require an undercover or indoor, ground-floor area.
